Getting there

Your expedition package does not include your international flight ticket. We highly recommend that you arrive a day before the expedition begins. NPE will be pleased to arrange for the extra overnights needed.

Day 1: Arrive Delhi

On your arrival at the international airport in Delhi and after clearing customs & immigration, our representative will greet you and transfer to the hotel.

Delhi, the capital of India, is a city that offers a glimpse of both ancient and modern-day India.  It is the third-largest city in India and one of the fastest-growing in Asia. This city is rich in culture, always changing with time but never hiding its splendid past. The various ancient ruins seen in the city are silent witnesses to its magnificent history. The city of Delhi is a blend of two different yet perfectly balanced parts, the Old and the New Delhi.

Day 2: Delhi

After breakfast proceed for sightseeing of the Walled city called Old Delhi.

As a city wakes up, after breakfast will pick you from the hotel and get transported to the times of the grandeur and subsequent ruin of the Mughal Empire. After breakfast, we visit India’s second-largest & most aesthetically designed Mosque, the Jama Masjid. Then we walk through streets and markets of this 17th-century imperial capital city of the Mughal empire where once royalty descended…where you savor the fragrances of the boisterous Spice Markets, one of Asia’s largest and be dazzled by the glitter of India’s largest Jewellery markets and get a glimpse of the once-glorious Havelis (Royal Mansions) of Old Delhi.

In Old Delhi you will also have an opportunity to enjoy rickshaw ride.

Rickshaw Ride: A ride in the old city market laid by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, would give you an experience of a lifetime. Pass through the colorful shops of bustling Chandani Chowk, one of the largest wholesale markets in Asia also an important landmark in the history of India. If you feel up to it take a short walk in the market and explore another facet of Indian life.

Afternoon enjoy a sightseeing tour of New Delhi.

The city named New Delhi offers more historical sites than the Old Delhi. The city founded by the imperial British government founded in 1911 to move their capital from Kolkata (called Calcutta earlier).

The sight-seeing tour of New Delhi would include a visit to Humayun’s Tomb, a drive along the ceremonial avenue – Rajpath, past the imposing India Gate, Parliament House, and the President’s Residence and would end with a drive through the Diplomatic Enclave.

Day 3: Delhi – Raipur – Kanha

After breakfast transfer to airport to board the flight to Raipur. Upon arrival at Raipur airport, drive to Kanha (230 kms / 4-5 hrs).

Kanha National Park-Set on The Chhota Nagpur Plateau in Madhya Pradesh, Kanha provides breath taking vistas of grassy plains and strands sal forests. This 366 sq mile preserve was set to save two endangered species i.e. Tiger and Barasingha. The park offers a variety of species including Tigers and Leopards, Cheetal, Gaur, Barking Deer, & Sambhar Deer.

Lunch and afternoon safari by 4×4 jeep accompanied by resident naturalist and forest guide. Return to lodge for evening tea and rest of time free to relax.

Overnight at Kanha. (B, L, D)

Day 4 & 5: Kanha

Early morning wake-up call with a knock on your room door and a cup of tea or coffe. You will wake up to misty mornings and sounds of birds calling, which will make an exciting start to your day. As soon as dawn breaks, leave for your Jungle Safari, accompanied by a resident naturalist and forest park guides in 4×4 Jeeps. A picnic breakfast in the middle of the jungle with a cup of hot tea or coffee. Rest of the morning at leisure or go for nature walk, visit to nearby village/school or engage yourself in cooking demonstration.

Lunch and afternoon safari by 4×4 open jeep.

Return to the lodge for evening tea and rest of time free for stargazing.

Overnight at Kanha. (B, L, D)

Day 6: Kanha – Bandhavgarh

After morning Jungle Safari, drive to Bandhavgarh (290 km / 6-6 ½ hrs). Upon arrival check in to the lodge.

Bandhavgarh National Park: Set amongst The Vindhya Hills in Madhya Pradesh, Bandhavgarh consists of 168 sq. miles of Sal & a mixed forest of bamboo, grassland, and a complex of deciduous forests. There are at least 150 species of birds in the park, along with other mammals such as Tigers, Sloth Bear, Langur Monkeys, Wild Boar, Mongoose, 3 Kinds of Deer – Chital, Sambar, and Barking, to name a few.

Day 7 & 8: Bandhavgarh

You will wake up to misty mornings and sounds of birds calling, which will make an exciting start to your day. As soon as dawn breaks, leave for your Jungle Safari, accompanied by a resident naturalist and forest park guides in 4×4 Jeeps.

Lunch and afternoon safari by 4×4 jeep accompanied by a resident naturalist and forest guide. Return to the lodge for evening tea and rest of time free to relax.

Overnight at Bandhavgarh. (B, L, D)

Day 9: Bandhavgarh – Khajuraho

After morning safari, drive to Khajuraho (270 km/ 05-06 hrs).

Khajuraho Located in the Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh, Khajuraho has emerged as a renowned tourist destination from a tiny unknown village to UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built by the Chandela rulers in 9th and 10th century AD, the temples exhibit carved images of gods and goddesses, celestial maidens and dancers, animals, and musicians, all frozen in stone.

Upon arrival in Khajuraho, check-in to the hotel.

Day 10: Khajuraho – Varanasi

After breakfast proceeds for sightseeing of Eastern and Western group of Khajuraho temple.

Later transfer to the airport to board a flight to Varanasi. On arrival at Varanasi airport, our representative will meet you and transfer to the hotel.

Evening visit Dashaswamedh Ghat for glittering “aarti” ceremony of the holy river the Ganges Huge lamps are set ablaze and the priest holds forth the lamp as the multitude chants the hymns. You will be driven to a place called Beniabagh and from there walk to Dashaswamedh Ghat amidst crowded local market famous for spices, local shops, clothes, and daily vendors selling fruits, pickles, vegetables, etc. on hand-pulled carts.

Day 11: Varanasi

Sunrise boat ride on River Ganges to see people praying and bathing and to witness burning ghat, later a walk through the mystical landscape of poets, sacred temples, holy ponds near Assi ghat, the southernmost embankment of the holy Ganga river, walk in the footsteps of 16th century Banaras poet and mystic Pandit Goswami Tulsidas, translator of the sacred Ramanyana text.

Later excursion to Sarnath, once of the most sacred places for Buddhists, where Lord Buddha gave the first sermon after attaining enlightenment. Visit famous Dhamaekha Stupa, Moolgandha Kuti Vihar.

Overnight at Varanasi. (B, L, D)

Day 12: Varanasi – Agra

After breakfast transfer to the airport to board the flight to Agra. Upon arrival at Agra, you will be transferred to the hotel.

Later visit Agra Fort and sunset Mehtabh Bagh to see Taj Mahal.

Agra Fort, a massive structure with 70-foot high, 1.5-mile long walls encompassing an astounding collection of well-preserved buildings, many of them completed during the reign of Emperor Shah Jahan. The most unusual story about the Taj is that there might have been two of them. The emperor intended to build a second tomb in black marble, a negative image of the white Taj for Mumtaz. Tragically, before he could begin, he was deposed by his son and imprisoned in the Agra Fort where he remained until his death, spending the rest of his life looking out along the river to the final resting-place of his wife.

Using decades of experience, and with the help of our local partners, we have crafted this itinerary in detail to create a program that maximizes opportunities for exploring sites, and to facilitate wildlife encounters. Our expeditions use the best accommodations available. However, unpredictable circumstances such as weather, flight delays, or cancellations, labor strikes, road conditions, traffic, hotel overbookings, and other factors may force adjusting the program on-site.

These events or realities are out of our control and are an inherent risk when traveling, especially on expeditions to this kind of remote destinations. Your Expedition Leader might also decide to alter the program in case opportunities arise to improve cultural or wildlife experiences.

Please note that the expedition leader and hotels could change without notice due to force majeure reasons. No refunds will be given for program changes beyond the control of New Paths Expeditions.

Accommodations

GOLDFINCH HOTEL – BANGALORE

Goldfinch Hotel Bangalore is centrally located in Bangalore. This boutique hotel offers a 24-hour front desk. Free Wi-Fi is available. Fully air-conditioned, rooms at Goldfinch are fitted with flat-screen cable/satellite TV, sofa and work desk. Tea/coffee making facilities and a mini-bar are also included. Free bottled water is provided. Kebab Studio and Banjara Restaurant feature all-day dining and a buffet of international dishes. The hotel’s sports bar offers drinks and big-screen viewing for sports enthusiasts.

ROYAL ORCHID METROPOLE – MYSORE

Royal Orchid Metropole offers modern amenities in a heritage building, featuring 4-star accommodations in a former Maharajah’s residence. It features an outdoor pool and fitness center. Spacious rooms at Metropole feature wooden four-poster beds and private balconies with views of tropical greenery. Rooms have dining and seating areas. Metropole Royal Orchid has a well-equipped business center and a tour desk that helps with travel arrangements. Shikari serves a range of barbecued dishes and local specialties, accompanied by views of the hotel’s tropical gardens. Room service is available.

THE SERAI – KABINI

This 4-star resort sits on the banks of the Kabini River. It features an outdoor pool and a hot tub and is well-located for wildlife watching. The Serai Kabini offers spacious, air-conditioned rooms and villas which feature views of the Kabini River from either private or shared patios. The private bathrooms all include a hairdryer and free toiletries. A free breakfast is served each day at the Wild Grass restaurant, which also serves Indian, Western, and Chinese cuisine. Room service is also available. Guests can use the free weights or cardio equipment at the fitness center or relax at the resort’s spa with a massage treatment. The staff at the 24-hour front desk can provide dry cleaning and laundry facilities.

TRANQUIL RESORT -WAYANAD

Located in Ambalavayal, Tranquil Resort provides accommodations with a restaurant, an outdoor swimming pool, and a shared lounge. This 4-star resort features free WiFi and a garden. The resort features family rooms. Guest rooms at the resort are equipped with a seating area, a flat-screen TV with satellite channels and a private bathroom with a hairdryer and a shower. All guest rooms will provide guests with a desk and an electric tea pot. Tranquil Resort offers a buffet or American breakfast.

EIGHTH BASTION – KOCHI

Located in Ambalavayal, Tranquil Resort provides accommodations with a restaurant, an outdoor swimming pool, and a shared lounge. This 4-star resort features free WiFi and a garden. The resort features family rooms. Guest rooms at the resort are equipped with a seating area, a flat-screen TV with satellite channels and a private bathroom with a hairdryer and a shower. All guest rooms will provide guests with a desk and an electric tea pot. Tranquil Resort offers a buffet or American breakfast.

Not Included:

  • International and domestic flights.
  • Passport and visa fees.
  • Excess baggage charges.
  • Gratuities for Local Master Guide, Driver and Expedition Leader (may be added to your final invoice, if desired).
  • Gratuities for optional treks guides.
  • Personal expenses and incidentals, such as, but not limited to, phone calls, e-mail, and laundry.
  • Trip cancellation, travel delay, and baggage loss insurance.
  • Charges incurred as a result of delays beyond the control of New Paths Expeditions.

 

Deposits and final payments:

  • In order to guarantee your space on the expedition, a deposit of $1,500 is required at the time of booking.
  • The remaining cost will be charged 120 before the expedition begins.
  • Using these funds, New Paths Expeditions will make a deposit of 30% of the cost of your domestic air tickets to guarantee your seats in the needed flights. Please note that even though New Paths Expeditions will make the mentioned deposit, the domestic air tickets are not included and their cost will be added to your final invoice. In case you cancel your expedition, due to airline policies, we will not be able to refund the cost of the tickets, nor we will be able to transfer them to another expedition participant.
